‘Sugar Shack’, Pastel on paper, 2018
Artist: Emily Arbeau
I am Emily and I lived on the streets of Fredericton at one time. I drew pictures back then. I was glad when I got a worker who put me in a special care home. I do a lot of craft stuff like making cards, knitting dish cloths and painting pictures. I love pastels the most. And I hope you guys enjoy looking at my art.
Artist’s Statement
I went to the Sugar Shack in Hainsville, NB close to where I lived, with our next door neighbour. I spent a lot of time there drinking hot syrup right off the stove. I helped make it by carrying the sap to the stove and pouring it in the trough. There are so many things I can’t do that I want to be able to do. When I am angry about that it is easier for me to concentrate on my art. It calms me down.”
