Artist’s Statement

Everyone at the workshop worked together on this piece and when I look at it, I feel happy and my heart feels open. It is pleasant to look at and it really isn’t boring. There is a lot of action and the colours are bright and wonderful. As this canvas shows, we are all different, and we don’t have the right to make fun of each other. That won’t do us any good. I think when we put a whole bunch of different people together it makes something pretty. I am proud of our work and I’m glad I participated.” – Michel Bouchard

Michel Bouchard is a 60 year old man who lives in the L’Arche Montréal community. He has been at L’Arche for 41 years. Michel likes to play cards and tell jokes. He has the gift of welcoming people and he’s always positive and in a good mood.
